In Ireland, e-scooters became legal on public roads from May 20, 2024, treated like bicycles, requiring riders to be 16+, use roads (not footpaths), obey traffic laws, and meet technical specs (max 25kg, 20km/h, lights, brakes, bell). While insurance, tax, license, and helmets aren’t mandatory yet, the government is reviewing rules due to serious injuries, considering compulsory helmets and high-vis gear
